Partnerships
Our work involves designing projects that plug pertinent gaps in the media landscape to uphold fair and independent journalism in the region.
From capacity building, to curating fellowships, and building forums — we are at the forefront of innovation to build bridges across media to transform ideas to action. We collaborate with organisations from across the world to ensure we support and uplift the Asian media landscape.
Journalism Connect
In partnership with Goethe Institut/Maxmuller Bhawan (India and Germany)
An Indo-German cultural and knowledge exchange fellowship curated by Asian Dispatch in partnership with the German Embassy’s language and culture center in New Delhi – Goethe Institut/Maxmuller Bhawan.
Centered around the idea of ‘Rewriting trust in media’, the fellowship is a year-long engagement with 12 fellows across India and Germany. The fellowship is an opportunity for journalists to look at the ecosystem in a renewed way and understand how they can rebuild trust in the institution of media.
During the first leg of the fellowship, the cohort authored a knowledge sharing handbook, which can be downloaded from here.
Workshops to Upskilling Journalists
In partnership with Global Investigative Journalism Network (India)
Our team was invited to conduct workshops with the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) across the year for regional forums in India. The first workshop was conducted on data journalism practices and the second on effective reporting and storytelling practices for niche newsrooms in India.
Digital Safety Trainings
In partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and SFLC.in
Journalists are one of the most vulnerable groups online, and to ensure their safety and security we partnered with SFLC.in. Adapting their digital safety curriculums with the support of their team, we curated an Asia wide online training on digital safety and hygiene checks to ensure journalists are safe while reporting online.
The pan-Asia trainings helped the participants to learn tricks and best practices to safeguard their online identities.
Asia Media forum
In partnership with Oxfam, UK (Sri Lanka)
Asian Dispatch was the implementation partner for the second edition of the Asia media forum hosted by Oxfam, UK in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The forum brought together journalists from 20 Asian countries together for a power packed two day in-person conference. Our team curated the programming for the second day, which included workshops on cross-border reporting and use of AI in newsrooms amongst other interactive exercises curated for the cohort.
Biodiversity Reporting and Training
In partnership with Earth Journalism Network
In a bid to advance cross-border reporting and encourage reporting on biodiversity themes in Asia, the team worked with the Earth Journalism Network on a two-part reporting and training project. The 12-month long cross-border reporting produced a long-form reportage on the illegal trade of shahtoosh; tracing the origins and the trade route of this illegal fabric obtained from an endangered antelope species formed the backbone of this story. The second part of the project focused on training journalists from across Asia virtually on how to report on the biodiversity beat in a responsible and innovative manner.
The team’s efforts were recently recognised as the story In the Shadows: The Shahtoosh Trade was shortlisted for the True Story Journalism Awards 2026.
Open Climate Reporting Initiative
In partnership with the Center for Investigative Journalism, London
Asian Dispatch was the publication partner with the Center for Investigative Journalism, London’s Open Climate Reporting Initiative 2025. The project brought together six fellows across South Asia for a training and mentorship experience. The three-day boot camp brought the participants together in Colombo for an initial ideation and training session; they then worked on individual reporting projects in their home countries. The end result was six stories on climate change reported from South Asia.
Workshop on Use of AI in Newsrooms
In partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Cambodia)
The promotion of the responsible use of AI has been a priority for Asian Dispatch. In the pursuit of that mission we conducted an in-person workshop in Cambodia for journalists from across the country. Supported by KAS, the workshop focused on bringing together the journalism fraternity in Cambodia to support training on how to integrate AI responsibly in their daily workflows.
