Our Editorial Policy

Asian Dispatch is a flagship initiative of OW DataLEADS, which was launched in April 2023.

A network and newsroom with 21 members across 13 Asian countries and one associate member in the United States of America. Asian Dispatch operates through its editorial team, with the editor having full editorial control. Our aim is to promote collaborations between our member newsrooms and bring to light the untold Asian stories.

Our editorial team—comprising editors, reporters, and social media managers—strive to report on and publish accurate, verified, and fair reports. Our first commitment is to our readers and we are working continuously to ensure we are able to deliver news by upholding the highest journalistic standards.

Our guiding principles:

• Accountability, Independence, and Transparency: While Asian Dispatch is a part of a for-profit organisation, the newsroom is managed by the editor, along with the editorial team, and the decisions are taken independent of the business interest. We avoid any real or perceived conflict of interest. Our journalists maintain transparency and accountability throughout their reporting and do not misrepresent or conceal facts for the sake of a story.
• Accuracy over speed: We are not chasing numbers, we are chasing deadlines. We prioritise accuracy over speed and focus on providing the context behind the big news stories. We put our readers at the centre of it all and explain why a certain policy, event, or incident matters to them. Our journalists are empowered to sift fact from fiction and tell stories that present an accurate picture through reliable sources and datasets, without bias and personal opinion.
• Bolster local journalism: We don’t support parachute journalism and focus on strengthening local journalism through our network.
• Inclusivity and diversity: Our journalists aim to be inclusive in their reporting, which ranges from interviewing diverse sources, to sharing bylines with local reporters and providing accurate attribution of sources cited.
• Confidentiality: We ensure that our reporting protects the confidentiality of our sources, whenever required, and is considerate of the impact a report can have on them.

Correction policy 

While we ensure that our stories and reportage is watertight and there are no inaccuracies, it’s only human to make mistakes. If you spot any error in our stories, please email them to the Asian Dispatch team at editor@asiandispatch.net.
